- Account Information: If you sign in to Fossy, we collect certain personal identification details. Authentication is managed securely via our third-party partner, Clerk. When signing in via Google, Clerk handles the OAuth flow and shares with us your name, email address, and profile avatar. We use this strictly to manage your session and identify your submissions.
- Usage and Analytics Data: Like most websites, we use Google Analyticsto automatically collect information about how visitors interact with our pages. This includes log files, IP addresses (which are anonymized), browser types, internet service providers (ISPs), date/time stamps, referring/exit pages, and the number of clicks. This data is not linked to any personally identifiable information.
- Public GitHub Metadata: Fossy aggregates public repository and developer statistics from the GitHub API (e.g., star counts, forks, primary language, topics, and contributor commit counts). This is public information hosted on GitHub and is displayed here to highlight community participation.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect in various ways, including to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain our curated directory.
- Improve, personalize, and expand our website layout and search features.
- Understand and analyze how you use our website (e.g., which categories and languages are trending).
- Develop new features, products, and services.
- Verify and attribute community contributions, project reviews, or updates.

3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Fossy uses cookies to store information including visitor preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the user experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information.

- Clerk: Sets functional cookies to maintain your login session and protect against authentication fraud.
- Google Analytics: Sets tracking cookies to understand site performance and visitor trends.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others. To operate our Service, we utilize secure, industry-leading third-party platforms:
- Supabase: Our database provider. Session data and project bookmarks/submissions are stored on Supabase servers under strict security compliance protocols.
- Clerk: Our identity and session manager. User accounts, metadata, and authentication profiles are securely held in Clerk's secure auth environment.
- Google Analytics: Provides our web analytics service. Data collected is governed by Google's privacy policy.
5. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Depending on your location, you may have specific data protection rights, including:
- The Right to Access: You have the right to request copies of your personal data.
- The Right to Rectification: You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
- The Right to Erasure: You have the right to request that we erase your personal data. You can delete your sign-in account at any time through the Clerk account dashboard.
- The Right to Restrict Processing: You have the right to request that we restrict or object to the processing of your personal data under certain conditions.

6. Security
The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information (using secure HTTPS connections, RLS rules in Supabase, and OAuth via Clerk), we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Children's Information
Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.
Fossy does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
